Job description

In order to develop and expand the capabilities of SAFRAN Engineering Services in the UK, we are seeking to recruit a Stress Engineer to join our expanding team of engineers on a permanent contract to support the development of Aerospace Cabin interior activities based in South Wales.

Key Responsibilities:

Knowledge of regulatory FAA requirements, customer technical specifications and company internal specifications.
Understand and able to apply guidelines documented in the corporate Stress Engineering Manual.
Generate various Finite Element Models (FEM) using Altair/Nastran.
Verify the structural compliance via FEM, hand calculation and other analysis tools.
Propose methods and techniques to support structural optimisation.
Prepare structural substantiation documents including stress analysis, static test plans, static test results, interface loads analysis, comparative analysis, and weight summary to comply with FAA and customer requirement.
Consistently communicate with internal customers to present structural feedback, make recommendations and provide status of deliverables.
Participate in technical design review meetings at each milestone during the development phase of Aircraft interior commodities.
Approve drawings and ECNs (engineering change notices) for structural airworthiness at CCB (Configuration Control Board) meetings.
Understand the mechanics of materials, especially composites and their design values.
Perform static test and create static test report according to customer specifications.
Define physical product tests through liaison with Test and Instrumentation Engineers and produce associated test plans.
Analyse results obtained from physical testing to ensure that they support the results from structural analyses and produce the associated test reports.
Release approved reports and the related data to Document Control.
Work rigorously to Customer group procedures.
Promote and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving products and manufacturing processes.
Promote and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving the performance of Stress activities within the business.
Participate in and progress review meetings with the project team.
Support the planning definition (estimation of required time to perform tasks).

Job requirements

Minimum of 4 years' experience in Stress related activities of Composite and metallic components within the Aerospace industry.
Proven knowledge and experience of Aerospace Cabin Interior Systems (Galleys, Seats, etc..).
Proven experience of computerized design methods (CATIA V5).
Proven experience of computerized design and analysis methods Altair / NASTRAN PATRAN.
Proven experience performing hand calculations (using such tools as ESDU, Niu, Bruhn …).
Proven knowledge of aerospace Composite (honeycomb) /Metallic materials and manufacturing processes.
Good knowledge of Microsoft office.
Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PDM).
Customer focused, with ability to establish credibility with internal and external customers.
Awareness of Aircraft Industry standards, FAA regulations and qualification requirements.
Good English verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work to tight, demanding deadlines and customer demands.
Ability to work effectively within an integrated project team.

Educated to engineering degree level or equivalent (MSc preferred)
